We live in Texas so we will have have storms from time to time.
After a hail storm some guys come up and down every street in your neighborhood pretending to be experienced roofers. They sign you up and promise to fix your roof for what sounds like a great price (and maybe they get some cash from you up front!)
Don't sign up with anyone that rang your doorbell without you calling them! A good roofer is to busy to go door to door.
Don't put a new roof on top of an old one! We all used to do this but it now causes a problem when you sell the house because very few insurance companies will insure a house that has more than one layer of roof.
Don't try to fool your insurance company. If you collect money for an insured repair then make that repair and do it right. The insurance industry keeps records on claims and both you and your house are tracked for claims made. Your cost of insurance and anyone that buys your house in the future will be affected by the number of claims and the type of claims they were. They will look very hard at any claim where you are unable to show proof that the repair was made (and they will look very hard at any water claim).
